Peace in God's Glory: The Only Way to Live

Peace in God's Glory: The Only Way to Live

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”

— 2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV

For me, the most peace-inducing thought in the world is remembering that my life is intended for God’s glory.

Yes, he is gracious to be intimately involved in every detail of my life and yes, he does work all things for the good of those who love him. And yet, ultimately, even his mercy is intended to point to his praise as we remember the Awesome and Merciful King we serve.

Remembering the purpose of our lives—to point to the name of Jesus and the glory of God—is a perspective shift that can lift us above all the noiseand all the muck, and help bring surrender and release in even the most trying of circumstances.

It reminds us of the sovereigty of God as we lay our pride, pleasure and own purposes down and entrust ourselves fully to whatever he would choose to accomplish in and through us.

This doesn’t create passivity, but au contraire, it creates a powerful ability to “try” even in the face of our own incapability.

We can ask God to do immeasurably more than all we could ask or imagine according his HIS power at work in us—and we can step forward, even when our own abilities feel glaringly weak.

We can proclaim that his grace is sufficient for us. Yet, not for purposes, but for his. May we yield ourselves to his plans in full surrender of the heart, participating as agents of his glory for the greatness of his Name.

I hope this truth brings rest to your soul today. I find that when I’m falling short or facing a situation that is daunting or over my head, remembering that this life isn’t about me to begin with doesn’t make me feel lesser, but simply brings about a proper humility in my soul that produces lasting peace.

As you lay every anxiety and care at his feet, may the peace which surpasses all understanding guard your heart and mind—as you allow King Jesus to reign over every thought and circumstance. Bless you today!
