Jesus Fills the Gap: A Writing About Christ's Sufficiency
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
—2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV
God is impossibly good.
This means he is better than we could ever be. His standard of good living is higher than we could ever attain. And, his love is grander than we could ever imagine.
It’s because of this extravagant love, that Christians desire to embrace the fullness of God’s ways—his guidelines, his laws, his precepts, and passions—while knowing full-well that we are incapable of walking in them perfectly.
We pursue the perfect ways of God, knowing we are surrounded by a most generous grace in times of mishap, pain, and failure.
As Christians, we hold the standard.
As Christians, we don’t need to compromise on what is good and pure.
Because as Christians, we know we are covered by amazing, incredible, indelible grace.
It’s an interesting thing to observe—almost seems paradoxial—how receiving grace and pursuing God’s laws go hand-in-hand. You see, when we deeply understand the forgiveness and mercy offered to us, we are able to run in pursuit of a high mark with diligence and heart.
Knowing grace is real colors our lives with courage.
As we deepen our knowledge of the reality that God operates in benevolence, we can trust his standards, and our desire to pursue them with our lives grows worshipfully, day-in-and-day-out.
Grace emboldens us, and we are able to step forward into God’s light—being exposed for all that we are. This process, in its perfection, produces both holiness and humility. Holiness, as we aim to align ourselves with God’s will. Humility, as we are continually accepting the forgiveness we know we are in dire need of.
It’s because we embrace the Gospel message of an atoning Savior dying a criminal’s death on behalf of our every blemish, that we can come to the Lord, vulnerably repentant, and receive his help for us. We believe that Jesus fills the gap between where we are and where we want to be. We are free to come into agreement with God’s precepts, because the grace of the Lord goes with us every step of the way.
