I was sitting on the dock of a quiet lake yesterday, in awe of the wonder before me. I had listened to a message by John Piper that talked about pressing our hearts into God’s creation. So I sat there reflecting on the water.
It can be treacherous in might, yet can be the same sound we use to lull babies to sleep at night. In the same blue, I saw both overwhelming calm in water which can be quite turbulent, and ripples that seemed to excite the more gentle places. And how like God! He both calms the chaos in our life, and wakes up those areas that are stagnant.
Romans 1:20 says that since the beginning of the world, God’s qualities have been known through what he has created.
His depth, displayed to us in nature, calls out to our depth, and vice versa. Our souls long for the everlasting.
Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me. Psalm 42:7
